Good Ways
Overview
Good Ways is a new project from the creators of Slow Ways, with a simple aim: great routes for everyone. It’s a shared app for finding, sharing and following the best active routes across the UK, Ireland, the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man.
The routes are for anyone who walks, runs, cycles, wheels, rides, skates, swims or paddles - or uses a pushchair or wheelchair - whatever their ability, interests or needs. Individuals, charities, community groups, councils, schools, libraries and sports clubs can all share routes with their communities, building nationwide maps from local knowledge.
Tech Stack
Good Ways is split into an API and a separate front end that consumes it, with the surrounding infrastructure and public website handled alongside.
- API: Laravel
- Front end: Nuxt.js, consuming the API
- Hosting: Docker, deployed to our own servers with Coolify
- Logging and monitoring: Grafana
- Documentation: Documentation sites, also hosted with Docker
- Public website: WordPress, with custom plugins built for the site
Key Features
- Find and follow routes: Browse thousands of highly rated and recommended routes in one place.
- Community-contributed: Local routes shared by individuals and organisations make up nationwide maps.
- For everyone: Routes for every mode of travel, ability and need.
- Member-led: Founding members get updates, a vote on development, and early access.
Project Status
The first version of the app is due later this year. A pilot is running in Exeter.
